Bug-Weak Damage Challenge: 180-Second Teams for Beedrill, Alder, and Barry (Revised)

By SciPocket · October 18, 2026 (updated October 19) · Bug-weak, three opponents

We set Team Firepower Explorer to 180 seconds and searched with Leaf & Beedrill, Arc Suit Alder, and Barry (Special Costume) as the fixed main attacker in turn. This is a cumulative evaluation from the start of battle, including sync moves and attacks after the final sync, rather than a single-hit comparison.

These values are cumulative firepower indices from the calculator, not in-game damage or battle scores. They exclude enemy Defense and Sp. Def and come from a search over a limited set of candidates.

Common calculator settings

We assume a standard Bug-weak battle with three opponents and zero starting sync buffs. No Gym Battle enemy preset is active. The calculator compares candidate teammates, grids, and action orders around each fixed main attacker.

The search narrows candidates from 666 published sync pairs. It does not guarantee the maximum across every team, grid, or action order. Sync counts below include sync moves used by teammates.

Distinguishing normal Zones from EX Zones

Normal Bug Zone multiplies Bug moves and sync moves by 1.5; EX Bug Zone multiplies them by 3. These multipliers do not stack. Benga’s after-Max passive deploys EX Bug Zone. His Field role deploys normal Zone before his first sync move; while the same EX Zone is active, this deployment extends it instead.

Benga gains two ranks of Special Moves ↑ Next after his Max Move, plus one rank from a separate passive responding to allied Zone deployment. Circles use an approximate 50-second base plus verified extensions; expired Circles no longer provide their bonus.

This team pairs Leaf & Beedrill with Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme) and Benga & Volcarona. It was searched again with Max Moves included among the available actions.

The route opens with Leaf’s buddy move, Benga’s Super Effective ↑, and Lucas’s Sinnoh Solidarity. Lucas takes the first sync move, followed by Leaf’s Mega Evolution at her own sync move at 33.25 seconds.

Leaf uses her buddy move three times, at 4.75, 90.25, and 156.75 seconds, and uses three sync moves of her own. Benga’s Max Move at 61.75 seconds helps extend the EX Bug Zone first deployed by Leaf’s buddy move.

The total includes Benga’s Bug attacks as well as Leaf’s damage. Lucas’s Dragon attacks score zero under the super-effective-only rule, but their setup and sync-countdown effects remain part of the route.

The team is Arc Suit Alder & Volcarona, Benga & Volcarona, and Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme). Benga’s after-Max passive deploys EX Bug Zone to strengthen the team’s Bug attacks.

The route opens with Alder’s Trainer move, Benga’s Max Flutterby, and Lucas’s Sinnoh Solidarity. EX Bug Zone activates after Max Flutterby at 9.5 seconds. The triggering Max Move does not receive the Zone bonus deployed after its hit.

Alder uses Almighty Sun Hyper Beam at 52.25 and 90.25 seconds. The calculation respects its limited uses, including the recovery after his first sync move.

The intrinsic 2.5× multiplier assumes six gauge slots consumed for each buddy move. Gauge refill and waiting time are not simulated. Sync moves go to Lucas, Alder, Benga, Alder, then Alder.

Barry (Special Costume) & Heracross teams up with Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme) and Benga & Volcarona. Max Flutterby sets up EX Bug Zone after its hit at 4.75 seconds.

Lucas takes the first sync move; Barry Mega Evolves with his sync move at 47.5 seconds. After Mega Evolution, five hits from Pin Missile satisfy his buddy move’s unlock condition.

This route uses Spiral Megahorn at 71.25, 109.25, and 175.75 seconds, plus two sync moves from Barry. The team total also includes Benga’s own attacks.

After the opening EX Zone expires, Benga’s first sync move deploys normal Bug Zone just before the hit at 104.5 seconds. Check the calculator’s field and Type Rebuff history for the gap and the change from EX to normal Zone.

The teams were searched again with Max Moves and their after-hit EX Zone effects included. Alder’s team has the highest index in this model. Waiting time and some unique effects remain unmodeled, so use the results to plan teams and action orders rather than as a ranking of actual battle performance.

Model coverage and limitations

The 180-second model updates move uses, buddy-move unlocks and reseals, countdowns, field expiry, Type Rebuffs, and consumption of next-move boosts in action order. It approximates three allied actions plus one enemy action; individual animations, input delays, gauge, and survival are not reproduced as in a real battle.

For these calculations we verified Leaf’s two-hit attack and triple-power Lunge, Mega Heracross’s five-hit attack and buddy-move unlock, and Arc Suit Alder’s once-only buddy-move MP recovery. Before Mega Evolution, Barry’s Pin Missile uses the guaranteed minimum of three hits.

Gauge-dependent power uses the maximum six-slot condition. Leaf’s team-Speed-based power increase, some conditional grid effects and random MP recovery, and gauge consumption and recovery over time remain unmodeled. Enemy Defense and Sp. Def reductions are also excluded from the firepower index.

A selected recovery tile does not mean the route assumes unlimited random MP recovery. In a real battle, test the route and adjust it using your observed sync count and remaining Zone duration.
